The Control Tower rises next to the reservoir of the Monte da Rocha Dam, near the locality of Garvão, in the municipality of Ourique. Situated on the edge of the national road connecting the Beja region to the Alentejo coast, it is set in a typically rural and tranquil environment, marked by open plains and the constant presence of water. The surrounding landscape is dominated by the serenity of the water surface and the gentle hills that form the horizon of Baixo Alentejo.

Function and Architecture

Built as an integral part of the dam's hydraulic system, the Control Tower has an essential function in controlling and monitoring the water. Its vertical concrete structure rises above the waterline and is connected to the bank by a narrow walkway, giving it a distinctly technical and functional appearance.

Despite the simplicity of its construction, the tower stands out as a striking visual element in the landscape. Its cylindrical shape and isolated presence next to the reservoir create a composition of lines and volumes that harmonizes with the vastness of the surrounding space.
