A Legacy of Heritage and Faith

Opened in 2005, the Seminary Museum is the result of a collaboration between the Department of Historical and Artistic Heritage of the Diocese of Beja and the Rectory of the Seminary itself. This space was designed to showcase the rich historical and religious heritage of the region, establishing itself as one of the pillars of the diocese's museum network, and filling a gap in the dissemination of local Christian heritage.

Journeys Through History and Art

The museum's collection guides visitors through various periods of the region's history, organized into distinct thematic nuclei. One segment invites discovery of the period before the arrival of Christianity, where a notable piece can be observed: an engraved lid representing the weaponry of a proto-historic warrior, revealing the religious practices of that time. In another space, attention is focused on the establishment of Christianity and the founding of the Diocese of Beja, with the exhibition of objects such as an abacus from Messejana. A third nucleus is dedicated to Modern History, covering the 16th to the 20th centuries, and illustrates the life of the city and the Church through vestiges and photographs depicting the lives of old nuns and sisters in Beja's convents.

Through its exhibitions, the Seminary Museum contributes to the valorization of Beja and Alentejo as a territory with a vast historical and cultural identity.
