Located inside the Beja Castle.
The Jorge Vieira Museum is a must-see artistic attraction in Beja, dedicated to the works of the talented sculptor Jorge Vieira.
Since September 2019, the museum has moved to the Governor's House, inside Beja Castle, due to the need for better facilities.
The Casa das Artes, where the museum was previously located, underwent a renovation in 1992, receiving the Espiga de Ouro Municipal Architecture Award in 1993. In 1995, the Beja City Council acquired the building to house the sculptor's collection of works.
The building has two floors: the first displays the collection of drawings and sculptures donated by Jorge Vieira, while the lower floor is used for temporary exhibitions, performances, installations, conferences, workshops, and activities related to visual arts.
The Jorge Vieira Museum plays a vital role in promoting culture in Beja, offering a variety of activities over the years.
In addition to the museum, Beja is proud to have two significant public sculptures by Jorge Vieira: the "Monument to the unknown political prisoner," created in 1953 and rebuilt in 1994, and another sculpture originally designed for the 25 de Abril Bridge.
