Lourosa Zoo is located in the town of the same name, Lourosa, which is part of the municipality of Santa Maria da Feira.
Its position within Lourosa integrates it into the urban fabric and the surrounding area.
This zoological space stands out as the only park in Portugal entirely dedicated to the world of birds.
When visiting, the focus is solely on the vast and varied winged species that inhabit its spaces, offering a unique experience for those who appreciate avian diversity.
Lourosa Zoo houses a vast and diverse collection of birds from various parts of the world.
There are approximately 500 birds, representing about 150 different species. These animals are distributed across about 80 distinct habitats, designed for their specific needs.
More than just a bird exhibition site, Lourosa Zoo plays an active role in conservation and environmental education.
It is dedicated to the preservation of species and biodiversity, serving as a center for raising awareness about the importance of protecting ecosystems and their bird populations.
The park has its roots in the 1990s, having been subsequently acquired by the Santa Maria da Feira City Council in 2000.
This transition allowed for the adaptation of the space to comply with regulations for public animal exhibition. One of the distinctive symbols of Lourosa Zoo is the Cassowary, a remarkable bird that was adopted as its logo.
For visitors with reduced mobility, the park was designed to be largely accessible in most of its areas.
However, it is important to note that some sections of the path may have inclines greater than 6%.
