District: Aveiro > Arouca > Vau > Praia fluvial do Vau
The Vau River Beach is nestled in the locality of Vau, within the municipality of Arouca. This natural space is strategically positioned, roughly halfway along the renowned Paiva Walkways. Access to this river beach is direct via the Paiva Walkways themselves, making it a unique stopping point for those exploring this pedestrian route.
This place, now an invitation to leisure, holds traces of a history linked to crossing the river. In the past, a ferryboat operated here, essential for connecting the two banks of the Paiva River. This vessel facilitated communication and movement between the then parishes of Canelas and Alvarenga, establishing a vital link in the lives of the riverside communities.
The banks of the Paiva River, at this point, offer a scene of serene beauty and tranquility. The Vau River Beach is characterized by the presence of an inviting sandy area, where it is possible to enjoy moments of rest. The crystal-clear waters of the river and the surrounding natural landscape provide an atmosphere of freshness, ideal for a revitalizing contact with nature. It is important to note that, being a natural space, it does not have lifeguard supervision.
