This remnant is situated in the rural area of Talhadas, municipality of Sever do Vouga, on the lower slope of the road connecting Talhadas to the hamlet of Ereira. It is approximately 1 km from the “Pedras Talhas” (Carved Stones), in rugged terrain protected by stands of maritime pine and surrounded by small agricultural fields.
The surroundings are marked by dirt paths and dry stone walls, where the contrast between the ancient pavement and the intense green of the vegetation highlights the Roman presence in the territory.
Built between the 2nd and 4th centuries, this section was part of the connection from Viseu to the road that linked Olisipo (Lisbon) to Bracara Augusta (Braga). Roman engineering leveraged the natural morphology of the terrain, shaping the rock to carve the road's base and emphasizing the pavement's robustness.
Approximately 230 meters long, it features slabs fixed with wedges and areas directly excavated into the bedrock, testifying to the care taken in maintaining a strategic communication route during the imperial era.
The grey schist pavement retains marks from the carving tools and evidence of wear from centuries of passage. On the surface, the joints between the slabs form an irregular pattern that reveals the manual adjustment of each block.
The contrast between the ancient stone and the surrounding trees creates a serene environment, where silence is punctuated by birdsong and the gentle sound of wind in the pine trees. It is possible to walk the section, feeling the irregular texture underfoot and appreciating the terrain's variations.
