The Fountain is located in the Gração area, in the village of Sobrado, which belongs to the municipality of Castelo de Paiva. It is situated in a small and pleasant square, with a floor covered by Portuguese pavement creating geometric patterns, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. Its central and isolated position within the space gives it a prominent role in the local urban landscape.

Historical Legacy:

Dating from March 1894, this 19th-century fountain is a testament to Sobrado's evolution. Its construction at the time aimed to supply water to the population, playing a crucial role in people's daily lives. Today, although its original function has changed, it remains a landmark that evokes the former needs and customs of the local community.

Design and Ornamentation:

Featuring an architecture reminiscent of Baroque revivalism, the fountain is a centralized, imposing, and intricately crafted piece. It rises from an octagonal basin, shaped from solid granite stonework. From its center emerges an artistically sculpted column, adorned with intricate vegetal elements, such as woven patterns, motifs resembling plants, and acanthus leaves. It has two iron spouts, flanked by details evoking vegetation, through which water once flowed. At the top, a star with the initials "OP" engraved on a cartouche crowns the structure, and the old metal rails on the sides, which served as supports for containers, can still be seen.

Beyond its historical and architectural value, the Sobrado Fountain today serves as an ornamental source, beautifying the square where it is located. It offers a tranquil and inviting environment for a brief pause, allowing one to appreciate the details of its construction and the serene atmosphere of the place.
