The Cabreia Waterfall is located in the town of Sever do Vouga, in Portugal, nestled within the area known as Vale dos Carvalhos (Oak Valley). This site is part of a landscape where nature predominates. Access to the waterfall involves a descent along a pedestrian path, which is facilitated by the presence of steps, walkways, and wooden supports, discreetly integrated into the surroundings. Upon arrival, one immediately notices the refreshing coolness that characterizes this enclosed valley, sheltered by the dense canopies of various tree species.
The Cabreia Waterfall is an impressive natural phenomenon, where the waters of the Mau River plunge. With a height of approximately twenty-five meters, the waterfall demonstrates the river's strength and beauty, descending from a serene river basin. The water gains speed and power before cascading down the rocky slope, creating a striking visual and auditory spectacle. The coolness caused by the falling water is one of the immediate sensations experienced at this location.
The surroundings of the waterfall are characterized by dense and luxuriant vegetation, where shades of green extend everywhere. Trees such as alders, ashes, and oaks provide natural cover, contributing to an atmosphere of tranquility. Humidity is constant, even in the summer months, as it is a valley traversed by a mountain river. Among the granite blocks, the proliferation of ferns is common, and in moments of greater stillness, some wild species, such as the elusive dipper or the curious otter, can be spotted, finding their ideal habitat here.
Beyond the natural beauty of the waterfall, the site reveals traces of human presence and their ancient relationship with water resources. By walking the paths alongside the river and crossing the wooden bridges, it is possible to discover the ruins of old water mills. These structures are testaments to an era when the power of the torrents was harnessed for work, adding a historical and cultural dimension to the visit and highlighting the integration of human beings into this natural environment over time.
