It is located at the end of the peninsula between Ovar and São Jacinto, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Ria de Aveiro.
The reserve covers almost 1000 hectares, divided between land and sea.
Created to protect the dunes, their plants and animals, while promoting nature conservation.
The reserve is an important refuge for various species of birds, such as ducks, herons and seagulls, making it ideal for birdwatching, especially during migration.
The dunes, covered by natural vegetation, are the main defense against the advance of the sea. The site also has a forested area with pine trees.
A boardwalk allows for leisurely walks between the beach and the estuary, offering views of nature and opportunities to observe local fauna.
There are small lakes created to welcome aquatic birds, where you can observe various species, especially in winter.
The reserve is a short distance from Ovar and Aveiro, with access by road. Some areas are restricted to protect the environment.
