Cortegaça Sul Beach is located in the coastal area of Cortegaça, within the municipality of Ovar. It is an Atlantic beach, characterized by its strategic position next to the open sea and the presence of a rich natural environment. It is flanked by dunes and extensive pine forest areas, elements that define the typical landscape of this part of the Portuguese coast.
To the east, the beach benefits from its proximity to the Ovar Dunes Forest Perimeter, from which a countryside aroma extends, complementing the sea breeze. At the ends of the sandy expanse, jetties mark the coastline, offering interesting perspectives on the vastness of the ocean and the extent of the beach itself.
This beach stands out for its vast sandy area, which extends for about one kilometre. Its size provides enough space for visitors to enjoy the tranquillity and spaciousness of the place, even during peak times. The landscape is a harmonious fusion of the golden sand, the green of the pine forest, and the blue of the Atlantic.
The environment is profoundly natural, with dunes forming gentle barriers between the bathing area and the adjacent pine forest. This scenery invites moments of contemplation, invigorating walks by the water, or simply relaxation on the sand, with the sound of the waves as a backdrop.
Cortegaça Sul Beach is known for its strong waves, a characteristic that makes it particularly attractive to water sports enthusiasts. The conditions here are favourable for activities such as surfing and bodyboarding, attracting athletes who seek the energy of the Atlantic waves.
The regular presence of surfers and bodyboarders is a testament to the quality of the waves that form here. For observers, the ocean's dynamic offers a continuous natural spectacle, where the force of nature manifests in its full glory.
In addition to its natural and sporting qualities, Cortegaça Sul Beach maintains a connection with the region's ancient fishing traditions. Although not its main focus, this cultural heritage is visible in elements such as the jetties, which historically served to protect the coast and support maritime activities.
This connection to the past gives the beach a touch of authenticity, linking its present leisure-oriented purpose to the history of communities that have lived from the sea over the centuries. It is a place where nature and culture meet in a discreet and genuine way.
