Located in Brandão de Vasconcelos Square, in front of the Monastery of Arouca, in the town and municipality of Arouca, in the Northern Region of Portugal.
It is considered a Property of Public Interest, according to Decree No. 23,122, of October 11, 1933.
The pillory was dismantled and stored in the cloister of the Monastery of Arouca at the end of the 19th century. It was only in 1989 that it was re-erected, using the remaining fragments that were in the possession of the City Council.
Originally, the pillory had three small shields on the capital, evenly distributed, and at least two armillary spheres at the base. Currently, it consists of a base with three hexagonal steps, a circular base, a smooth and cylindrical shaft, a capital decorated with two royal shields, and an armillary sphere at the top.
