The Alfusqueiro River Park is located in the village of Casal, in the municipality of Águeda. Nestled in a bend of the Alfusqueiro River, this space is set in a serene shale valley, marking the transition to the mountainous area that precedes the Serra do Caramulo, which gives it a distinctive natural setting.
This river park is characterized by extensive grassy areas and sandy zones, stretching along the left bank of the Alfusqueiro River. The surroundings are marked by rich riparian vegetation, where willows, alders, and ash trees stand out, contributing to the beauty of the enclosed valley. Throughout the year, the river's course presents itself in distinct ways: in the winter months, the force of the waters under the bridge is audible, contrasting with the gentle current during the summer.
One of the most prominent features of the park is the granite bridge that crosses the Alfusqueiro River. Its structure, with a high and robust arch, is notable for its history, as its origin is believed to date back to the Roman period, having been substantially rebuilt in the 18th century. From the top of the bridge, a wide view unfolds over the entire river park and, downstream, over the river valley, revealing the steep slope of the opposite bank that accentuates the local scenery.
The Alfusqueiro River Park offers inviting spaces for rest and appreciation of nature. Its banks feature natural grass and some sandy areas, with shaded spots that allow full enjoyment of the location. For visitors' convenience, the park has restrooms and a picnic area, ideal for those seeking the cool waters of the river and moments of outdoor relaxation.
