Ribeirinho Park is located in the Giesta area, in the village of Oiã, in the municipality of Oliveira do Bairro. It is situated on the south and west banks of Pateira de Fermentelos, one of Portugal's largest natural lagoons, near the confluence of the Levira and Cértima rivers.
Set in a floodplain area that can exhibit varying humidity levels depending on the season, the park spans approximately 1.2 hectares. Its location offers expansive views of the lagoon and rivers, providing a serene and close-to-nature experience, without being far from the urban area.
The park stands out for its dense vegetation, which contributes to the diversity of the local ecosystem. During winter, the area becomes a prime observation spot for various species of aquatic birds, including several duck species. In warmer months, it's possible to see herons, such as the Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea) and the Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea), which frequent these calm waters.
This natural environment provides a direct connection with the local fauna and flora, making the space attractive for those who enjoy contact with nature and observing biodiversity.
Ribeirinho Park was designed for leisure and socialising, featuring pedestrian paths, some of which are elevated over the wetlands, allowing visitors to explore different perspectives of the site without disturbing the environment. There are also structures dedicated to birdwatching, such as a viewpoint and a watchtower, accessible via wooden walkways.
In addition to these facilities, the park includes children's play areas and rest areas, with tables and benches covered by tiles that help keep surfaces dry even on rainy or foggy days. The space is used by families, groups, and visitors alike who seek a tranquil environment for strolls and social gatherings.
