The Monte Branco Beach Museum/Shipyard is located in the town of Torreira, Murtosa municipality, in the area from which it takes its name, Monte Branco. It is situated south of Torreira's main urban cluster, offering proximity to the coastal landscape and the arms of the Ria de Aveiro which define the region's identity.
This site is a center for the preservation and appreciation of the boat-building arts that characterize the culture of the Ria de Aveiro. It functions as a dynamic museum, where local maritime knowledge and tradition are continuously showcased, allowing for a direct connection to the region's living heritage.
At the heart of this shipyard, it is possible to observe the work of Mestre José Rito, the only artisan permanently based in Murtosa dedicated to the construction and repair of traditional vessels such as the emblematic moliceiros and bateiras. Visitors have the opportunity to closely follow the various stages of this ancestral craft. In the vicinity of the Museum/Shipyard, Mestre José Oliveira, responsible for many of the colorful panels that adorn the moliceiros sailing the Ria, also uses the space to create his distinctive paintings, revealing another artistic facet linked to these vessels.
