Casa de Júlio Dinis is located in the parish, city, and municipality of Ovar, in the district of Aveiro, Portugal.
The house is an example of the civil architecture of Ovar and was the place where the Portuguese writer Júlio Dinis lived during the summer of 1863, when he began to show the first signs of tuberculosis. During this period, he wrote a large part of his most famous work, "As Pupilas do Senhor Reitor" (The Rector's Wards). In a letter to Custódio Passos Dinis, the writer described his stay in Ovar as a pleasure comparable to a tepid bath, a pleasant experience that lulled him to sleep.
Casa de Júlio Dinis was classified as a Property of Public Interest in 1984.
Since March 1996, the house has housed the Júlio Dinis Museum, which offers visitors an immersive experience in the life and work of the writer. The museum has a library dedicated to Júlio Dinis, in addition to displaying pieces from his personal collection and exhibitions on the local ethnography of Ovar, known as "Vareira ethnography".
