The Bairrada Wine Museum is located in Anadia, in the area of Arcos and Mogofores, in the heart of the Bairrada demarcated region. This positioning allows for a direct connection with the wine-growing landscape that characterizes the area.
From a large window, integrated into the building's northwest facade, it is possible to contemplate the vineyards of the Bairrada Viticultural Station. This location holds particular significance, as it was here, in 1890, that the classic method of sparkling wine production began in Portugal.
The building housing the museum features contemporary architecture. It was designed from scratch to be a space dedicated to wine culture, having been inaugurated on September 27, 2003.
Inside, the exhibition path invites visitors to discover the importance of wine in the Bairrada region. The permanent exhibition, titled "The Wine Journey," guides visitors through a trip that addresses various aspects related to local viticulture.
The exhibition is divided into six thematic rooms, each focused on a distinct moment or theme: The Vineyard, The Harvest, Cellars and Wineries, Sparkling Wine, Technical Tasting, and Tourist Itinerary. Throughout these areas, pieces and objects of archaeological, ethnographic, and technical value are presented, illustrating the different phases and traditions linked to wine.
In addition to the main exhibition, the museum dedicates attention to art, regularly hosting temporary exhibitions that showcase different artistic languages. The space also integrates four permanent installations, created by the sculptor Fernanda Fragateiro.
The visit also includes an area displaying a selection of wines produced in the Bairrada Demarcated Region. Also noteworthy is a private collection of corkscrews, belonging to the collection of Eng. Adolfo Roque, which constitutes a remarkable set due to its value and diversity.
