District: Aveiro > Águeda > Urgueira
Located in Urgueira, in the municipality of Águeda, this elevated point rises on a mountain slope that marks the transition between the interior of the municipality and the coastal plain of Aveiro. The surroundings are forested, with clearings that open up the horizon and allow for an unobstructed reading of the landscape.
The final access is via a well-marked trail, alternating between wide paths and natural-surface trails. On site, there is a balcony with a railing that marks the observation area and a landscape interpretation panel, known locally as Miradouro do Junqueiro.
The view encompasses a wide arc over the Aveiro region. On clear days, it is possible to distinguish Águeda in the foreground and, further beyond, the city of Aveiro and the Ria coastline, with the gentle outline of the coastal plain stretching as far as the eye can see.
The installed panel helps to identify references in the panorama, marking directions such as Águeda, Aveiro, Macieira de Alcôba, and the Ribeiro valley. The interpretation is simple and allows for relating the viewpoint's altitude to the valleys and hills that structure the territory.
The setting is silent and marked by patches of pine and other forest stands. The light of the late afternoon highlights volumes and shadows, creating favorable conditions for landscape photography and for appreciating the changing colors on the horizon.
Those who follow the trail find a varied route, with different types of terrain, which invites unhurried walking and short stops for observation. The platform with a railing offers a safe point for contemplation and for capturing panoramic images of the region.
