The Parish Church of São Vicente de Pereira Jusã is situated in a more rural area of the locality. It is located on a slightly elevated platform, sharing its western side with the parish cemetery. The building is surrounded by a churchyard, accessible via staircases, which connects it to its surroundings and offers a spacious area in front and to its sides.

An 18th Century Church

The building currently observed had its construction initiated in the mid-18th century, in a different location from the original church, referred to in ancient records since 1258. The foundation stone of the current church was laid in 1756, and its inauguration took place a few years later, in 1764. Over time, the temple received several additions and modifications that shaped its appearance to this day, including the addition of altarpieces and structural alterations.

Exterior Architecture and Details

The temple features a Baroque architectural style, with a simple and elongated plan. The main facade, facing north, stands out for its unique portal and the square bell tower erected to the left. The tower has a characteristic dome-shaped roof. The building's facades are framed by decorative stone elements, such as corner pilasters and ornate finials. A particular and visible detail on the facades is the tile cladding that was applied in subsequent interventions.

Interior and Artworks

Inside, the church reveals a wealth of decorative elements. The gaze is drawn to the high choir, supported by a vault. The two pulpits, with their stone basins, are notable for their finely carved wooden railings painted in shades of blue and gold. The nave ceiling is covered with stucco coffers. The marble flooring contributes to the dignity of the space. The various altarpieces and decorative valances, made of wood predominantly painted in white, gold, and blue, enrich the side chapels and the chancel, highlighting the main altarpiece on the high altar.
