The Parish Church of Nariz is located in the heart of the village of Nariz, in the municipality of Aveiro. It is specifically situated in Lugar de Verba, with its main facade facing Rua da Igreja. Its central position within the urban core makes it an easy-to-find landmark and an integral part of the local landscape.
This religious temple has a history dating back at least to the 17th century, when an initial chapel stood on the site. Over time, the building grew and adapted to the community's needs. It is known that by 1808, expansion works were already underway, anticipating its future transformation.
An important milestone in the building's history occurred in 1819, when the parish of Nariz was formally dismembered from the neighboring Requeixo, and the former chapel was then elevated to the status of a parish church, becoming the center of religious life for the new parish.
When observing the Church of São Pedro, its simple and functional architecture stands out, characteristic of religious constructions from the 18th and 19th centuries. Both the main facade and the sides feature doors with rectangular frames, topped by decorative elements such as friezes and cornices. This attention to detail in the openings lends a certain dignity to the building's exterior.
Inside, the eye is drawn to the chancel arch, which divides the nave's space. This arch has a particular structure, with its faces characteristically divided.
Among the elements of interest is a holy water font of considerable dimensions. Its baluster-shaped sculpted base and wide basin stand out, showcasing a piece with some artistic detail.
The high choir, a common element in many churches, is supported by two Tuscan-style columns, resting on pedestals. On the wooden front beam of this choir, a curious inscription can be observed, recording a moment in the building's history: "O P(ADR)E IOA(O) SIMOIS O MAND(O)U FAZER NO ANO DE 1808 A(NOS)". This inscription is a direct testimony of the expansion works that prepared the chapel to become a parish church.
On the pavement, an old tombstone is still visible, with faint traces of ornamentation, suggesting the presence of burials inside the church in past times, a common practice in other eras.
