In 2013, the Church of São Pedro was classified as a "Monument of Public Interest", highlighting its historical and architectural value.
The current church is the result of an 18th-century reconstruction of an earlier temple, which may have medieval origins. Vestiges of this temple can still be observed, such as some stones and lintels from the 17th century.
The church has a simple Baroque architecture, with a façade decorated with pilasters and a curved pediment, in which the image of São Pedro, the patron saint of the church, is located. The date of completion of the work is 1748, as inscribed on the façade.
The church tower is topped by a lantern and adorned with gargoyles. Inside, the gilded and polychrome wood carvings stand out, enriching the altars and side chapels. This decoration dates from the second half of the 18th century.
The church displays interesting elements of Rococo carving and painting, including coffers with 18th-century paintings in the chancel and from the 1840s in the nave of the church.
The church is located in a special protection zone, which aims to preserve the surrounding landscape and viewpoints, with an urban and rural context that involves the building.
Located in an urban area, the church is easily accessible, with a paved courtyard and surrounded by walls. There is also a small annex next door for catechesis, and the surrounding area includes a pillory and other community structures.
