Praia Nova is located within Costa Nova, a coastal area belonging to the locality of Gafanha da Encarnação, in the municipality of Ílhavo. This ocean beach is washed by the Atlantic and is strategically situated, where the presence of jetties marks the proximity of the entrance to the Ria de Aveiro, directly influencing its natural characteristics.
With a sandy expanse stretching approximately 1.3 kilometers, Praia Nova offers ample space for visitors. Its waters are notably calmer, a characteristic owed to the natural protection provided by the jetties that mark the Aveiro bar. Along the beach, there is a dune system, a coastal strip that, although thin for much of its length, widens slightly in the southern area, contributing to the natural landscape and the stability of the sandy area.
Praia Nova's environmental quality has been recognized for several years, having been awarded the Blue Flag since 1987. This award, implemented on a European scale, attests to the high standards of water quality, safety and available services, as well as environmental management and awareness for environmental education on site. It is a sign of the care and preservation that characterize this coastal area.
