Situated in Albergaria a Velha, the building stands next to the old railway line, in a flat and open area of the urban fabric. The main volume, painted white and covered with red ceramic tiles, aligns with the track and reveals the facade facing the platform.

The setting is calm, with trees and open grounds that indicate areas where loading operations took place. The observation is mainly from the platform side, where the reading of the ensemble is clearer and the light enhances the materials.

Origin and Railway Context

The station was part of the historic Linha do Vouga, one of the rare Portuguese narrow-gauge lines. Since the beginning of the 20th century, it served regional connections, bringing Albergaria a Velha closer to neighboring towns and the main railway hubs of the Aveiro district.

The ensemble preserves the memory of that period of intense passenger and goods traffic. The platform, the adjacent areas associated with freight, and the layout of the tracks allow us to understand how local railway operations functioned throughout the last century.

Architecture and Environment

With a simple and well-maintained design, the building combines whitewashed walls with granite stonework marking the corners and openings. A circular oculi stands out on the pediment, and beneath the eaves, the wooden structure is visible. The plaque with the toponym Albergaria a Velha identifies the station. A continuous veranda facing the platform provided shelter for passengers and connects the main body to an adjoining volume with warehouse functions.

Details such as painted wooden doors and windows, metal lighting supports, and old insulators on the facade reinforce the historical character. On clear days, the contrast between the white walls and the tiled roof creates a photogenic scene, helping to understand the heritage value of this narrow-gauge railway architecture.
