The Parish Centre of Oiã is located in the locality of Oiã, an integral part of the municipality of Oliveira do Bairro, in the district of Aveiro. Situated on Rua de Santo António, this building is located in the central area of the town, being a recognizable and easily accessible landmark for those exploring the area.
Built at the beginning of the 20th century, the Parish Centre of Oiã stands out for its valuable artistic collection, much of which comes from the former Convent of Sant'Ana, in Coimbra. The altarpieces, dating from the 17th century, are elements of particular interest. The main altarpiece, imposing in its size, fills the main chapel and integrates paintings that are worth observing.
In the side chapels, the walls are enriched with a set of Mannerist paintings, conferring a visually rich atmosphere of great historical depth to the space. In addition to the altarpieces, the choir stalls, also originating from the same Coimbra convent, complete the artistic ensemble, revealing the concern for beauty and tradition within the temple.
The construction of the current Parish Centre of Oiã began in 1892, replacing a previous structure. The initiative was due to the then parish priest, Canon José de Mello, and its completion was carried out by Father Abel Gomes da Conceição Silva, a key figure in the transfer and integration of the notable artistic assets from the Coimbra convent. The church was solemnly inaugurated on October 27, 1901, a date marked by an inscription on the building itself, marking a new chapter in the religious and social life of Oiã.
In addition to its architectural and artistic value, the Parish Centre of Oiã remains an active place of worship and a point of reference for the community. Its presence in the locality invites moments of serenity and reflection, allowing visitors to appreciate the tranquility of the environment and the richness of the heritage it houses, reflecting the faith and history that have shaped the region over time.
