The Cabreia Waterfall is located in Vale dos Carvalhos, a locality in the municipality of Sever do Vouga, belonging to the parish of Silva Escura. This natural point of interest is nestled in a steep valley, where the landscape is shaped by the power of the water and the serenity of the surrounding vegetation. Access to the site is via a path that descends into the valley, offering a first perspective of its natural surroundings.
Fed by the waters of the Mau River, the Cabreia Waterfall is an impressive fluvial waterfall approximately 25 meters high. The water plunges with remarkable force down a rocky slope, creating a natural spectacle of great beauty and freshness. At the base of the waterfall, the force of the water shapes small natural pools and weirs, which extend downstream, demonstrating the continuous dynamics of the riverbed.
The environment surrounding the Cabreia Waterfall is marked by dense and exuberant vegetation, where green tones predominate. This valley is an invitation to connect with nature, offering an atmosphere of tranquility and silence. The freshness of the air, felt more intensely near the waterfall, and the constant humidity, even during the summer months, contribute to a natural and bucolic setting, where the dense foliage of trees such as alders, ash trees, and oaks creates a natural and enveloping shelter.
This valley, carved by the Mau River, offers a rich and diverse habitat. Among the granite blocks and dense vegetation, it is possible to observe flora characteristic of humid environments, such as ferns that sprout abundantly. In quieter moments, local wildlife can be spotted, including the Water Lizard, which finds its ideal environment here. With some luck and patience, it is even possible to glimpse the elusive Dipper or the curious Otter, testaments to the natural vitality and ecological integrity of the site.
