Casa dos Melos is located in the historical area of the parish of Pampilhosa, in the municipality of Mealhada, in the district of Aveiro. This building can be found in Pampilhosa-Alta.
The house dates back to the 16th century and was originally built as a granary by the nuns of the Lorvão Monastery. After the extinction of religious orders in 1834, it became known as "Casa Melo". It has been classified as a Property of Municipal Interest since 1980 and as a Property of Public Interest since 1983. The house is also listed in the Artistic Inventory of Portugal, by the Academy of Fine Arts.
The house has undergone restoration work and is currently managed by the Ethnographic Group for the Defence of Heritage and Environment of Pampilhosa (GEDEPA).
Casa dos Melos houses several museum centres, such as the Ethnographic Museum and the Pig Museum. It also has spaces dedicated to temporary exhibitions.
The house has an external staircase, with a balcony supported by stone pillars. The building includes a granary that was built later, as part of the architectural complex.
