Casa do Major Pessoa, also known as the Art Nouveau Museum, is located at Rua Dr. Barbosa Magalhães, nº 9-11, in Aveiro, near Jardim do Rossio, in a central area of the city.
Built in 1907 by Mário Belmonte Pessoa, the building was designed by architects Francisco Augusto da Silva Rocha and Ernesto Korrodi. It was classified as a Property of Public Interest in 1997. In 2004, the building was very deteriorated, but in 2008 it was recovered and transformed into the Art Nouveau Museum.
This building is an excellent example of civil architecture in the Art Nouveau style, an artistic and architectural movement characterized by organic shapes, curved lines, and detailed decoration.
