The Nunes da Silva Family House is located in the historic center of the parish, city and municipality of Ovar, district of Aveiro, in Portugal.
The house was built at the end of the 19th century by Councillor Luís Ferreira Brandão. The adjacent chapel was erected in 1891.
The house was inherited by the son of the first owner and later rented to João Baptista Nunes da Silva until 1957. In that year, João Baptista Nunes da Silva acquired the house, the chapel and the adjoining buildings, together with his son, who was then president of the Ovar Municipal Council. The property remained in the possession of the Nunes da Silva family until 1995, when it was bought by a real estate company.
The house and chapel complex is classified as a Property of Municipal Interest.
The house has two floors with a mansard roof. The main facade is covered with polychrome tiles, highlighting vegetal elements. The windows are framed by stonework and there are lateral pilasters in rusticated ashlar.
The central portal has a perfect arch and is connected to the balcony window of the noble floor. The side windows are curved lintel on the ground floor and end in a triangular pediment. There are pinnacles topping the pilasters and a small mansard in the center.
To the left of the house, there is an annex building with a facade covered in green tiles. The openings have stonework and railings on the upper floor. The building ends in a blind gable and pinnacles covered in blue and white tiles.
In addition to the decorative paintings, the ceilings of some rooms have stucco work that displays neo-Gothic and neo-Arab influences.
The chapel, which has its own chaplain, is located to the right of the residential building. It presents a revivalist style, recovering Manueline elements. Highlights include the wide portal with attached columns, a mullioned arched window, niches with baldachin, a quadrilobed oculus and a triangular gable. Inside, the gilded wood altarpiece with Rococo elements and a proto-Baroque structure stands out.
