The Chapel of Quinta de Vegide is located in the Curvite area, in the village of Trelacosinha, municipality of Castelo de Paiva. It is situated at the entrance of the private estate, on a dirt road section that follows a gentle slope.
The building is surrounded by vineyards and patches of scrubland, offering a tranquil rural setting, where the contrast between the chapel's granite and the green of the hillsides creates a scene of great serenity.
With a quadrangular plan, the chapel is crowned by a hipped roof that rises to a semi-spherical dome made of brick. The main facade opens into a rectangular portal, framed by a gable and topped with three conical pinnacles, while, above, a central aedicule, which once housed the image of the patron saint, highlights the Mannerist line of the construction.
Inside, the eye is drawn to fragments of the 18th-century Baroque carved altarpiece and the walls covered with 17th-century tiles. Light filters through small side openings, accentuating the intimate and contemplative character of the space.
Although there is no precise documentary record, it is estimated that the chapel was erected in the early 17th century, fitting into the transition from circular-plan Renaissance chapels to the hexagonal and octagonal solutions of the Baroque. This late-Mannerist style was common in estate oratories from the mid-16th century onwards.
According to local tradition, Quinta de Vegide belonged to D. Trutezendo Guedes, Lord of Paiva and maternal great-grandfather of Saint Anthony of Lisbon. Since September 29, 1977, the chapel has been classified as a Property of Municipal Interest, recognizing its value in the region's religious and architectural heritage.
