The Vagos Municipal Library, named in honor of João Grave, is located within the urban fabric of Vagos, in the Vagos e Santo António area. The building is situated on Rua da Saudade, a central location that allows for easy integration into the daily life of the community. Its presence contributes to the cultural atmosphere of the town.
This cultural space stands out for occupying the premises of a former Preparatory School, of which it retains the original façade. This reuse of the building preserves a part of the local architectural history, while adapting it to a modern function. The result is a facility that combines the legacy of the past with contemporary needs for access to information and culture.
Inside the library, visitors find various facilities that go beyond simple reading. There are areas dedicated to study and relaxed reading, a multi-purpose room that can function as a small auditorium, and equipped spaces for those wishing to watch films or listen to music. The collection is comprehensive, with approximately 20,000 books and over 1,000 documents in other formats, such as CDs, DVDs, and e-books, covering a wide range of topics.
With the youngest in mind, the library has a section dedicated exclusively to children's and young adult literature, with an inviting environment for children. Additionally, a specific room for "Story Time" highlights the space's commitment to promoting reading from an early age, offering moments of fantasy and learning. The library thus plays an active role in the cultural revitalization of the local community, also serving as a stage for educational and integration initiatives.
