This cove is situated in a naturally sheltered bay, flanked by two volcanic elevations that define the surrounding landscape: the imposing Monte da Guia and Monte Queimado. Its position offers a panoramic view of part of the island's orography.

Characterized by an extensive stretch of fine, soft sand, approximately 350 meters long, Porto Pim Beach stands out for the beauty of its scenery. It was here, in the 15th century, that the first settlers of the island established themselves, marking a crucial starting point for its development. Over the centuries, the bay played various roles, serving as a port for ships, including fishing vessels. In the 19th century, it became an important center for the Azorean whaling activity and, in the early 20th century, it was an anchoring point for the submarine telecommunication cables that connected Europe to the United States.

Porto Pim Beach is recognized for its quality and environmental value. It has been distinguished with the Blue Flag, an award that attests to its high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety.
