The Casa dos Botes is located in the parish of Capelo, on the island of Faial, more precisely in Porto do Comprido. This coastal cove, of great historical significance, was once the most important sperm whale hunting post on the entire island. Its position offers a setting that evokes the deep connection of the place to the sea and the region's ancient maritime activities.

Whaling Legacy

This building represents an extension of the old Whale Factory, which operated in the bay of Porto Pim. Recovered in 2011, the Casa dos Botes is a valuable testament to the history of whaling in Faial, preserving the memory of an era that profoundly marked the island's life and economy.

Inside the Casa dos Botes, visitors will find an authentic whaling boat and a detailed exhibition on whaling activity.
