Casa do Tempo is located in the Historic Centre of Vila do Corvo, the island's main urban cluster. It is situated on Rua das Pedras (Stone Street), a toponym that refers to the nature of the ground where the house was originally built. Its location in the old core of the village allows for immersion in the traditional atmosphere and local architecture, offering an authentic glimpse into the Corvo environment.
This unique building, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, represents an example of traditional Corvo island architecture. It has been carefully restored, maintaining its original design and historical character. A particular aspect of its interior is the possibility of observing the rock outcrop that serves as the foundation for the house itself, a feature that highlights the integration of the construction into the island's natural geography.
Casa do Tempo serves as a gateway for discovering Corvo island. Inside, visitors can access various informational contents that tell the history and traditions of the place. It is possible to watch an introductory video about the island, as well as explore a chronological frieze that covers both the geological periods and the human history of Corvo, from its beginnings to colonization. The space also provides a digital archive with photographs of the island and video testimonies from former inhabitants, who share memories and knowledge about Corvo traditions, such as the dia da lã, the matança do porco, or the festivities of Nossa Senhora dos Milagres. A mini-documentary about the island's settlement and its first 300 years complements this introduction, inviting visitors to explore Corvo with a more informed perspective on its culture and past.
